Overture on God Save the Queen is a movement from my Continental Concerto. The concept of the Concerto was to take a whistle-stop tour, anti-clockwise, around the various musical cultures and places of interest in Europe. Starting in the UK we work through France, Spain, Central Europe and Norway before finally returning back to the UK to finish.

A ‘messed up' take on the UK national anthem; the opening item from the Continental Concerto takes the melody to God Save the Queen and goes as wildly different from the well-known original as possible.

Much of the piece is written in a deep ethereal funk in 13/16, before a heavy, grungy half-time feel section featuring the euphonium and baritone - with the tune still dominating the harmonic structure of the accompaniment.
