STINGRAY
1964 (39 Episodes) Between Fireball XLS and Stingray Gerry Anderson’s production company, A.P. Films, was purchased by Lew Grade, and with this came bigger and better studios and productions. Stingray was the first British television series to be filmed entirely in colour, or Videcolor as the on-screen caption states. Barry Gray was to create a full orchestral sound, and a very exciting opening title, with his score to reflect the images on screen, a sound he was to continue into his next series, Thunderbirds.
The World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP) has been entrusted with patrolling the world’s oceans, and defending the land masses from the hostile undersea races, including the evil Lord Titan, ruler of the city of Titanica. Based in Marineville, on America’s west coast, CommanderSamShore leads the WASPs, the flagship of which is the super submarine, Stingray. Capable of speeds of up to 600 knots, its Captain is Troy Tempest, supported by Lt Lee ‘Phones’ Sheridan and Marina, the beautiful mute girl from the underwater city of Pacifica. Stingray also featured the voice of Lois Maxwell as CmdrShore’s daughter, Atlanta. Maxwell was better known for her role as Miss Moneypenny in the early Bond films. Ralph Titterton & Alfie Pugh
