This is a CD for those who would like to have a historical record of works, which are personal to the conductor John Berryman, as player and conductor, all on one CD.
As the title states, the works span a period of 80 years from BLACKFRIARS by Eric Cundell arranged by Denis Wright to AND THE WINTER MOON RISES by Andrew Baker. The style of works should appeal to a wide audience. Particularly worthy of note are a terrific performance of CONTEST MUSIC with GUS in fine form, a very nice BALLAD on Flugel, Thomas Fountain as soloist. John Iveson’s arrangement of JEALOSY features some outstanding playing from Peter Collins and James Fountain as duettists.
Another highlight is the arrangement of Bruce Broughton’s THEMES FROM SILVERADO, a score which brought international fame to Broughton. The rest of the programme offers excellent listening and a worthy addition to a CD library.
