A Christmas Cassatton opens festively with fragments of carols tossed around the hand against swirling comets. this is then followed by a slower section featuring flugel and trombones on the carol The Infant King. This is taken up by the full hand before the music moves into a scherzando section based on The Holly and the Ivy and Past Three O’clock, sometimes heard separately. sometimes together.
The opening music returns and the piece ends as it began. festively. Suitable for all grades of hand.
