Cool, seductive and sophisticated, this little masterpiece has a very confusing title. “Infante” means a Spanish Princess: here Ravel imagines one from former times dancing a stately Pavane. So she is neither an infant or dead. Ravel is quoted saying “Neither is it a Dead Pavane,” when he heard it played too slowly! (This is a new edition of the existing arrangement.)
