Performance notes —
ON THE RUN has a medium swing feel so quavers (eighth notes) should be swung. Care should be taken with the dynamics to ensure a good sense of balance is maintained between melodic lines and accompanying figures.
DANCE OF THE MAGCIIANS has a fast swing feel so quavers (eighth notes) should be swung. Care needs to be taken to ensure rhythmic accuracy, particularly in passages where there is a sense of two beats in a bar against three beats in a bar.
BAD TUESDAY BLUES has a medium shuffle feel so, again, quavers (eighth notes) should be swung. Particular attention will need to be given to dynamics in order to maintain clarity in the busier sections.
PRIME TIME has a medium rock feel which means that quavers (eighth notes) should be played as written. Care will need to be taken to ensure that the articulation is clear and gives the right sense of “drive” to this movement. As with the previous issues in this series, great scope is given to rehearsal and performance capabilities. All the titles work well with ANY mixture of saxophone and or brass from a saxophone only ensemble to brass ensemble. As with all the works in the Jazztet series, optional rhythm parts are provided as part of the set. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
