One of the most important parts of any rehearsal is the warm-up. In addition to the usual slow sound studies it is also useful to focus on rhythmic skills.

Rhythmic Warm Warm-Ups is an ideal item for doing this. It presents a large number of excellent exercises , for bands of all levels, exploring many different rhythmic patterns and time signatures.

A perfect way to start any rehearsal.

Many conductors follow the excellent routine of starting each rehearsal with a sound study. Some use a chorale; others use a solemn work from the secular repertoire. After warming up on the basis of sound and embouchure, the usual schedule follows: the rehearsal starts and the band practices the works that need to be studied.

However, if you wish to train your band’s rhythmic skills on a weekly basis as well, the time after the sound study is ideal.

With Rhythmic Warm-ups you have a large number of efficient exercises for each band at every level. You can combine the 10 modern five-part harmonizations (A to J) with the 36 rhythmic patterns — this way, you will have 360 exercises at your disposal. Extension is possible by having the various parts (1-5) play different rhythmic patterns. When the bass line (parts) has its own rhythm, the exercises practically become small songs. Of course it is also possible to combine the harmonizations with your own specific rhythmic patterns (which, for example, you can select from the repertoire you’re working on).
By using patterns with straight eighths and in swing you can coach the band in all rhythmic facets of popular music. Through the notation of the same rhythmic swing pattern in 4/4 as well as 12/8 time, these Rhythmic Warm-ups offer you the possibility of teaching even the most classically oriented band some swing feel, within a few rehearsals. You can have the rhythmic patterns 1-24 supported by pop rhythms as well as Latin-Arnrican rhythms in the Percussion, as long as they are carried out with straight eighths. The patterns 25-36 must be supported by a swing groove. A number of Percussion examples have been added.
Preferably end each exercise with a fermata (on a whole note).
I wish you and your band much success and enjoyment with Rhythmic Warm-ups.
