Winter Night (Sleigh Ride) started life as a solo piano piece, written and first performed by the English composer Frederick Delius at a Christmas Eve party in 1887. Delius later orchestrated the work and included it in his Three Small Tone Poems of 1890. The piece is a mixture of jaunty, up- tempo melodies together with a more lyrical section with prominent parts for Flugel and Soprano. A perfect way to end any Christmas concert.
