Explorations came from my observation of the need for more quality literature for the young trumpet soloist. I love to compose to a picture idea or program, and hence the idea for this set of solos was born. Each solo addresses a specific challenge for the trumpet performer, but every effort was made to keep the solo parts easily playable. My concept in writing the piano accompaniments (which are available separately) was to make them as colorful and interesting as possible in an attempt to end up with music that was not elementary sjudy music but intermediate level recital pieces. Any of the pieces can be performed together as a set and in any order or combination. The end result is a musical collection that I think will be both enjoyable to study and perform. I hope that the enclosed CD will help with your practice and performance of the pieces. On the CD you will first hear me play the piece. The piano accompaniment (without the solo part), played by my wife Laura, will follow. Have fun!
