Written in 1978 for the International Congress of the Salvation Army. (9.32)
Whilst aiming to be different from traditional theme & variation solos, this work consists of variations on four Salvation Army songs - There's A Better World, There's a Crown Laid Up in Glory, I Shall See Him Face to Face and The Homeward Trail. Ternary form in structure ( fast/slow/fast ) this solo broke new ground when it first appeared, demanding particularly, an increased upper range from the soloist.
