Barry Gray was, until his untimely death, one of Britain’s most respected and admired composers and conductors of television music. After wartime service as accompanist to forces sweetheart” Vera Lynne he worked his way through the light music industry before forming his celebrated partnership with puppeteer and film-maker Gerry Anderson. The ‘sixties’ saw TV adventures with Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, Stingray and Thunderbirds which achieved cult status. The latter recently spawned a stage show and a series of repeats and the main theme was taken up by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, becoming their unofficial signature tune which they played at the first “roll-out” of Concorde.
