British National Anthem.

Gordon Jacob's famous arrangement of the National Anthe, was made for the Coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd. June 1953. At the end of the Coronation servise the composer's nrew fanfare introduction led, via Jacob's four square link, into the first verse of the Anthem, harmonised in a straigforward fashon. The organ and orchestra linked the familiar first verse with the unfamiliar second (last) verse with unison voices and full instrumental forces.

Jacob's arrangement for Brass Band, made in 1972, preserved the original outline. For practical reasons, this edition cues the organ part on the band for outdoor performances -0 or when an organ is not available, and cues the unaccompanied vocal parts on a brass quartet in case the choir needs support. It also provides a cut of the first verse arrangement so that if only one verse is sung, the first verse words can be sung in unison from figure 2.
