Conspiracy was written as an opener to a second half (or encore) which showcases the band rather than any particular soloists. It's supposed to be very energetic and the percussion need to drive the tempo. The key idea behind the piece is the opening melody in the cornets and euphonium which is not dissimilar to the start of a fugue in that it is a bit endless. The idea of the complicated, repetitive rifi/melody was inspired by the rock band Muse as they often use this in their music. The lyrics of their songs often also refer to conspiracy theories — hence the title ’Conspiracy’. The music also builds tension towards the end, which fits with the title.

The soprano and 2nd/3rd cornets are scored together as are the front row and repiano, so they can stand either side of the band for added effect if required. The opening percussion sections can also be extended to allow the band to walk on in sections. There are five percussion parts and the parts are numbered in order of importance. As a minimum, the piece needs the kit part. The 5th part can easily be omitted or covered by the hi-hat for the most part.
