THREE LITTLE MAIDS - Parts & Score
Available £24.95

Categories: NEW & RECENT Publications, LIGHT CONCERT MUSIC
Composer: Sir Arthur Sullivan
Arranger: Christian Jenkins

Since its premiere in 1885 at the Savoy Theatre in London, The Mikado (or The Town of Titipu) has become one of the most-performed pieces of musical theatre in history.  As with many of Gilbert and Sullivan’s productions, the show satirizes aspects of Victorian Britain’s politics and aristocracy; in The Mikado, however, the duo cleverly cloaked these criticisms behind a charming story set not in Britain, but in exotic Japan.

Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the Japanese emperor), has fled in disguise to avoid marrying a much older suitor, and to find and marry his own beloved, the beautiful Yum-Yum.  Yum-Yum, however, is the ward of Ko-Ko, the lord high executioner, and has become betrothed to him against her will.  In the meantime, Ko-Ko finds his job difficult to carry out as the Mikado puts pressure on him to fulfill his quota of killings, but the executioner realizes he is too soft-hearted to kill anyone.  His solution is to trade a month of marriage to Yum-Yum for Nanki-Poo’s life (though he only pretends to kill him), but, of course, the plan backfires as Ko-Ko finds himself subject to capital punishment for allegedly killing the Mikado’s son.  As usual in Gilbert’s imaginative plots, the tangled web unravels, and everyone lives happily ever after.

This complex satire is characterized by the clever wordplay, memorable tunes, and endearing characters that have allowed Gilbert and Sullivan’s popularity with audiences to endure for well over a century.

The trio Three Little Maids is sung by Yum-Yum, Peep-Bo, Pitti-Sing, and the female chorus, and is arranged here for three tenor horns.

THUNK - Eb.Horn Solo - Parts & Score
Available £34.95

Categories: SOLOS for E♭. Horn, NEW & RECENT Publications
Composer: Lucy Pankhurst

Inspired by rock-funk fusion, Thunk! is based on funk riffs and layers thereby experimenting with a style not freely associated with the brass band. Utilising the full range of the instrument, the soloist is presented with a devilishly difficult and mischievous part to play, with optional ad lib. parts allowing each soloist to be as wild and inventive as they dare! The work offers an intense and exciting stylistic challenge to band and soloist alike.

Thunk! was premiered at the Stroud Festival 2007 by Lucy Pankhurst with Wingates Band.

TIGER STREET RAG - Brass Quartet - Parts & Score
Available £14.95

Categories: NEW & RECENT Publications, Quartets
Composer: Traditional
Arranger: David Childs

A combination of two of the great New Orleans Jazz classics, 12th Street Rag and Tiger Rag.

Tiger Rag was written and recorded in 1917 and recorded as a collaboration piece by the members of the Original Dixieland Jass Band, Nick LaRocca, Eddie Edwards, Henry Ragas, Tony Sbarbaro, and Larry Shields. It is the most performed and most recorded jazz standard of all time with versions by Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, The Mills Brothers, Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, Glenn Miller, Billie Holiday, Billy Cotton and Django Reinhardt to name but a few.

12th Street Rag was composed by Euday L. Bowman in 1897. Bowman ran away from home aged 11 and ended up in Kansas. While out walking one day, a friend of his known only as "Raggedy Ed" advised Bowman that he was going to open a pawn shop on 12th Street, the street they were walking along. Bowman is alleged to have replied "If you get rich on those three balls I'll write a piece on three notes to make myself rich". 15 years later, 12th Street Rag came into existence and became one of the most famous and best-selling rags of the ragtime era. The tune has been recorded most famously by the Benny Moten band in the 1930's but has also been used in the cinema in 1919 in the film short "A Day's Pleasure" by Charlie Chaplin. More recently, a ukulele version has been featured as background music on the TV series SpongeBob SquarePants.

This arrangement has an optional Piccolo Trumpet part to replace the 1st cornet part, should you want to have some fun.

Arranger: Jocjk McKenzie

Duration: 2:30 Minutes

Percussion:
4 Players as follows :
Timpani,
Drum Set,
Tambourine
and
Sleigh Bells

This carol has its origins in 16th Wales. The melody, which dates from the 16th century, comes from the winter carol of that time “Nos Galan” (New
Years’ Eve). The lyrics were written by the Scottish composer Thomas Oliphant in 1862. This truly celtic carol is sung throughout the Christmas, Yuletide and New Year season. My arrangement steps away from any celtic ‘feel’ and instead presents the material in a full-on swing style.
