Francis Lai is one of France's leading film music composers. His musical styles are very varied, ranging from contemporary jazz to classical. He is one of the pioneers in the creation of synthesiser sounds, samples and the use of 'computer' music. His film music has received awards from all over the world and in 1970 his score for Love Story secured him his only Oscar. Bilitis is a coming of age story centring on the exploits of a young girl during a summer vacation. This expertly crafted arrangement for soprano cornet and brass band is of the film's main title theme.

'Be My Love' was immortalized by the famous operatic tenor Mario Lanza. This version for euphonium and brass band was expertly crafted by Ray Farr in the late 1980s especially for the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and its euphonium soloist at the time, Nicholas Childs.
Be My Love was written for the film The Toast of New Orleans in 1950, and was nominated for an Academy Award in the same year. The story revolves around a rough-and-tumble fisherman from the Louisiana bayous, who is gifted with a wonderful, if unschooled voice, He is discovered by the director of the New Orleans French Opera (David Niven), and falls in love with the prima donna, a refined young soprano (Kathryn Grayson). The film has sunk into obscurity, but Be My Love survives as one of Mario Lanza’s best known signature songs.
This arrangement has firmly established itself in the euphonium repertoire over the years, and remains one of Ray Farr’s most popular arrangements. Duration: 4.00
