This new composition for solo trumpet by renowned composer Philip Sparke explores many aspects of trumpet playing and in particular its lyrical and technical possibilities. It is a two movement piece but either movement can be played separately if a shorter solo is required. The ‘theme’ of the piece is a weekend in New York with the opening bluesy movement, Saturday Serenade, describing the city on a Saturday night, perhaps in a smoke-filled jazz bar. While composing the second movement, Sunday Scherzo, the composer pictured an early morning jog in Central Park. A must for all trumpet players. This work is also available for trumpet and concert band.

This colourful collection of pieces draws its inspirations from a variety of art works, ranging from a gentle Parisian waltz •Ball at the Moulin de la Galette inspired by the artist Renoir; an atmospheric night piece Nocturne in Blue and Gold by Whistler; a bright, dazzling • Winter Landscape with Skaters by the Dutch painter Avercamp; the Baroque briffiance of •A Choir of Anqels by the 15th Century painter, Marmion; and two cool jazzy works •Marilyn Diptych by pop artist Andy Warhol and • Walking Man a powerful elongated sculpture by Giacometti which is in five time. The final and most challenging piece • Overcoming Red is inspired by the abstract artist, Rodchenko, who asserted in 1921 that the ‘end of painting’ was imminent; an appropriate choice for the concluding work of the picture gallery. Something for all tastes and abilities.
Composer Adam Gorb writes " What I love about many of the dances of the Renaissance & Baroque eras are the constant rhythmic variety and vibrancy that surprise and stimulate the ear. The pieces in this volume are a celebration of that rich period, and I hope that the contemporary harmonic language, along with the "modern" sound of the trumpet & piano adds both passion and excitement."
