Adiós Nonino was written by the world famous Astor Piazzolla as a tribute to his father Vicente "Nonino" Piazzolla in 1959. The title, translated, means Farewell Grandad, and the deeply expressive piece was written shortly after the death of the composer’s father.

The 'Admiral Spirit' is the pride of the Navy. The ship is at sea, there is no wind, the sun is shining. The crew are busy piloting the ship into port in prime condition. The admiral himself will inspect the vessel.
The first movement (Allegro Con Spirito) gives musical expression to the majestic ship and its toiling crew. In the second movement (Andante), the ship sails into port. It has been polished and technically everything is in order. The admiral will be proud when he inspects the ship.
Third movement (Allegro Molto): the captain and his crew are nervous (modulations) while working at the 'finishing touch'. The Navy Band is ready to receive the admiral !. He may be proud of his flagship.

Part of the Brass Band Aid Series
Brass Band Aid is a Charitable Organisation formed by members of Stanhope Silver Band, based in the North of England.
From an original aim to raise awareness of the Make Poverty History campaign in their local area, a brass band CD recording was planned. The initiative took on a whole new dimension when the collection of local bands performing on CD were then joined by, what is now known as, The Brass Band Aid Celebrity Band, made up of many of the top brass musicians in the country.
African Funk was composed and kindly donated to the charity by Alan Fernie. It is an upbeat number, playable by all levels and offers a wealth of percussion opportunities for the whole band!

His African Symphony was released in the 1970’s and was soon arranged for brass band by Naohiro lwai.
