After a dream... a melody to die for, perfectly shaped but very emotional. I have added a little repeat of the opening phrase to round off the melody, in the French style.

Winner of Best New Composition/Arrangement at Brass in Concert 2015
The Ancient Greeks believed that there were four elements that everything was made up of: earth, water, air and fire. This theory was suggested around 450 BC, and was later supported and added to by Aristotle. The idea that these four elements – earth, water, air and fire – made up all matter was the cornerstone of philosophy, science, and medicine for two thousand years.
Air was considered a ‘pure’ element, but in fact the air that’s all around us is made up of a variety of gasses. Of course, in music, air has a different meaning; a beautiful song-like melody or tune and Aristotle’s Air is just that.
The work was commissioned by and written for The Cory Band as part of their winning 2015 Brass in Concert programme ‘The
Four Elements of the Universe’, being premiered at the contest at The Sage, Gateshead, on 15th November 2015. The work was awarded the Cyril Beere Memorial Trophy for the Best New Composition or Arrangement.
Category: SOLOS - B♭. Cornet/Trumpet with Piano Composer: Alan Fernie
One of a growing number of publications in the Brass for Africa series.
Alan Fernie has dedicated this work to Rebecca Richards, who was the charity's first full time Country Manager based in Kampala, Uganda serving three years from August 2015.
In those three years Rebecca has achieved, and was responsible for, so much in establishing Brass for Africa as a reputable and effective charity bringing about real positive change in the lives of many young people in Uganda.
You may hear elements of both the U.S. and Ugandan national Anthems in this work, but Alan's performance notes say it all " Gentle and Kind"
By purchasing this title, you will be making a direct contribution to the charity Brass for Africa - as well as performing great music.
