This publication ob Bach's 371 Four Part Chorales is based on the collection of Johann Sebastian bach's Choralgesange published by Johann Philipp Kirnberger and Carl Philipp Emanuel bach between 1984 & 1787.
Besides the original harmonization of J.S.Bach, this collection with over 300 pages contains a lot of useful information for the use of the chorales, such as 1. a biography of J.S. Bach 2. an explanation of the Church Year with accompanying index 3. an index of the chorales arranged according to the Church year. 4. alphabetical indexes of the chorales, with an English as well as a German version.
Not only can the four voiced hamonizations be performed by an organ or piano player, but they can serve as a score for other instrumentalists as well. They are transcribed in 19 separately available part books for a large number of instruments. Also, one or more combinations can perform the chorales accompanied by organ or piano. Because a large diversity of instrumentalists can make use of these chorales, the key is sometimes changed with respect to the original. Whenever the voice exceeds the instrument's range, the score books offer a suitable alternative. In both cases, the original harmonizations have not been altered.

Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) is mostly remembered for the marvellous melodies of his hymn tunes, such as Jerusalem and Repton. The latter first appeared in Parry’s oratorio Judith and was adapted as a hymn tune after the composer’s death. This fantastic cornet solo will give your section leader a real chance to shine.

Paul McGhee made this haunting arrangement of WH. Monk’s famous hymn tune for the young Belgian star of the euphonium Glenn Van Looy, who performed it on 27 January 2013 at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass, and has recorded it on his latest solo album. Abide with me is a favourite of Paul McGhee, who says “When the hymn was used at the 2012 opening ceremony of the London Olympics, the contrast between the static, slow moving melody and the rhythmic effects of the dancers was something that thought could be captured in an arrangement.”

The lyrics to Abide With Me were written as a poem in 1847 by Scottish Anglican Henry Francis Lyte. Lyte wrote the poem and set it to William Henry Monk’s hymn tune ‘Eventide as he lay dying from tuberculosis.
The poem has been set with other melodies through-out its existence but it is the original pairing with Monk’s tune that remains it’s most popular and loved setting. In addition to regular use in memorial services, state occasions and festivals of remembrance, the hymn has made appearances in countless film and television programmes ond is still sung regularly at the start of important sports events.
Here a setting by renowned Welsh composer Karl Jenkins ensures this popular hymn tune will remain an audience favourite for years to come. Duration: 2:00 minutes
