Written for the re-opening of the Salvation Army building at Romford, this sparkling festival march features the tune, 'Ring the bell, watchman' to which the words, 'Come, join our army, to battle we go' are associated.

New Jersey born composer and musician John Clifford Heed, who was born during the American Civil War was as a cornet soloist and arranger in the legendary band of John Philip Sousa. J.C Heed was also known as the “March Wizard”. According to local legend in his hometown, it is claimed that Heed possibly wrote “The Stars and Stripes Forever”. Chris Houlding’s pulsating arrangement of “In Storm and Sunshine” is written in the style of a vibrant circus march, to be performed as quick as possible !

Bramwell Coles wrote over 50 marches and so has been dubbed The Salvation Army’s ‘march king’! First published in 1925, this march has stood the test of time and remains a favourite.
Herbert Mountain saw 15 marches published by The Salvation Army between 1922 and 1959. Favourites among these include tributes to several ‘Citadel’ corps like Sheffield, Blackpool and Stockport, and Indomitable dating from 1951. Beginning in the minor and unfolding in contest march style as a cornet soloist dialogues with the full band, the march switches to the major to present the chorus from ‘Onward, Christian Soldiers’.

Barry Gray may not be the most familiar of names, however he wrote the music for many of the productions of the legendary late producer Gerry Anderson. Television series such as Fireball XL5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO, and of course, Thunderbirds which in 2015 celebrates 50 years since its first broadcast.
