21st. Centuary Brass Brass Band Music - and a complete break with what we thought conventional brass bands should sound like ! A breath of fresh air ? - definately, but a lot of the traditional brass band audience may struggle with the musical structures and concepts which composer Andy Scott has created in these works - indeed many listeners will feel completely"out of their comfort zone" with a couple of the tracks.
The playing and solo performances however are suberb throughout - with track 3 - CHRYSALIS MOON, which features a quartet of soloists, being a firm favourite. Baritone players will love the opportunity to perform "FILM" , a beautiful ballad to showcase this instrument. The more I listen to Andy Scott's music, the more I begin to appreciate his approach to writing for the Brass Band medium.
