Category: SOLOS - B♭. Cornet & Band Composer: Robert Thornton Arranger: Edwin Firth
The concert cornet polka Fodenian was composed around 1913/14 by Robert Thornton, a composer known today for some delicate piano pieces. It was written for and dedicated to Edwin Firth, the finest cornet player of the day, who set out to arrange it for full band. Unfortunately the original manuscript was destroyed in the fire that engulfed the Foden’s bandroom in April 2016, but photocopies of that same manuscript have been painstakingly reconstructed to enable its publication ahead of the centenary celebrations for Edwin Firth, who was tragically killed in the First World War in 1918.
