Imagine a colourful procession of magical and mythical characters and creatures. Imagine wizards and witches; jesters and jugglers; magicians and minstrels; gargoyles and goblins. Imagine trundling trolls, laughing leprechauns, giant dragons, and flying fairies. Imagine brightly decorated wagons drawn by prancing unicorns, stilt walkers, and unicycles. Imagine them all moving past in a stately procession heading towards Merlin’s enchanted castle in the distance — imagine!
The composer had this mini movie in mind while composing Procession of the Sorcerers. The music has a quirky, medieval style to it — starting with percussion, introducing the themes and weaving them together, and building majestically towards the entrance into Merlin’s castle.
If there is only one percussionist the drum set part can be used. The drum set part can also be used if more of a “rock” feel is wanted.

The name of Richard Wagner (1813-1883) is synonymous with brass music. A superb and innovative writer for brass, his music has a grandeur and sweep that translates well into the medium of the brass band. His opera, Lohengrin, was completed ml 848 and is based on a medieval legend. The second act ends with a stately procession to Antwerp Minster where the heroine Elsa will marry Lohengrin a mysterious knight who has arrived just in time to save her from dire distress. The procession begins softly as the pair move towards the great cathedral flanked by nobles and courtiers. As trumpets blaze out in salute Elsa and Lohengrin embrace and, as they enter the mighty edifice, the curtain falls.
