By Request is the latest recording from Grimethorpe Colliery Band and celebrates the 15th anniversary of the hit film Brassed Off. The film told the story of the fictional South Yorkshire village of Grimley and how the local colliery’s brass band won a national competition only days after the closure of the colliery was announced The film mirrored the actual events of October 1992 when Grimethorpe Colliery Band became National Brass Band Champions, playing Philip Wilby’s The New Jerusalem, just days after the closure of Grimethorpe Colliery.
This recording includes the most requested music from the bands 2010 2011 concert programme including some of the music played on the Brassed Off soundtrack. Its release is timed to coincide with the bands tour of Australia m July and August 2011.

Fabulous CD - and the ideal Christmas present for anyone who has ever picked up a brass instrument and loves a good tune ! Very hard to pick a favourite track because they are all so good - but if pressed I would probably choose track four - The Nun's Chorus. Impeccable stylish playing from Richard Marshall and superb sympathetic accompaniments from the band.

My own to favourite tracks - both for the quality of the music AND how it is performed are tracks 04. O Magnum Mysterium and 12. Hymn to the Fallen. However I predict that track 16. will become a firm favourite with many brass bands.
