Normally £24.95 - only £20.95 in or SALE - limited stock.
The Civil Defence Association of Great Britain was formed as a support body for the Civil Defence Service and, whilst the Service had its own march, the Association did not - until recently. Sir Patrick Moore CBE FRS, astronomer, television personality extraordinaire, retired xylophonist, pianist and composer, was approached in the hope that he might provide a suitable march for the Civil Defence Association. Although now musically inactive through illness, he produced from his vast collection of marches written over a long period, the present one which he entitled, The Civil Defenders. Although originally scored for piano, Sir Patrick enlisted the help of his old friend and musical collaborator, Rodney Newton, who arranged versions for brass and wind bands.
The style is that of a traditional British road march and it should be played with all the panache and gusto which that implies. Duration c. 4.30

Commemoration for Brass Band ( with optional organ )was composed in 2018.
Originally part of a longer work, I prepared this short memorial piece at the suggestion of Nicholas Childs to mark Rememberance-Tide in general at the centenary of World War One in particular.
Fromed from an unbroken crescendo, the music starts with a distant cornet solo, and climaxes with the sounds of THe Last Post, played in tribute to the fallen from all wars past and present.

Set as a 3rd. Section testpiece in 1986
In two movements : 1. Ostinato 2. Fantasia
The source of inspiration for the composer was the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl in Russia. The first movement Ostinato expresses desperation, helplessness, fear and anger. The themes from the first movement are further exposed in the second movement Fantasia which has a spectacular finale. In 1989 this composition was the test-piece for the finals in the fourth section of the National Brassband Championships of Great Britain.
Categories: LIGHT CONCERT MUSIC, SUMMER 2020 SALE TITLES Composer / arranger: Jan Van Der Roost
Normally £48.00 - only £38.95 in our SALE - Limited stock
This stately concert opener was originally written by Jan Van der Roost for a special event in which six respected wind orchestras (two Belgian and four Dutch) of different composition (two symphonic bands, two fanfare bands and two brass bands) were featured during six concerts. Each evening brought forth a performance by a symphonic band, a fanfare, and brass band, so that the audience could experience all three types of ensembles. This was indeed an original concept. The name, ConZEnSus, comes from a combination of the words, ‘Concert Cyclus’ (concert series) and ‘zes’ (Dutch for ‘six’). This leads to a new word, which refers to ‘consensus’. The general tenor of the cycle is thus immediately indicated. The richness of color of the various ensembles is revealed through an open and friendly atmosphere. During all six concerts (over a span of three years), ConZEnSus functioned as a permanent opening number for each orchestra. Thus the same musical story was portrayed in three different packages.

Suite about the Sioux Indians -
(i) The Great Spirit (ii) Buffalo Hunting (iii) Smoking the Pipe (iv) The Ghost Dance (v) Pilgrims at Wounded Knee.
Duratio 8'10"
Commissioned by “Muziekvereniging Voiharding, Huissen (the Netherlands) on the occasion of its 50th anniversaiy — Henk Hesseling, conductor The Dakota (or Sioux) Indians from the American states North and South Dakota are the central figures in this composition. The work consists of five movements in which the culture and history of these Indians have been portrayed. In a few movements, Jacob de Haan has used an old Indian melody from South Dakota.
1. The Great Spirit The culture of the Dakota Indians was related to the earth and spirit world. They believed that the Great Spirit created the earth by casting a black ball onto the water, and that from a second ball, he created all living things.
2. Buffalo Hunting To gallop up to a powerful buffalo required skill and courage. Yet men looked forward to the chance to prove themselves in the hunt.
3. Smoking the Pipe The pipe was the symbol of peace and was used as such between men and nations. Smoking the pipe stood for a bond of good faith, and a holy man smoking the pipe would be in communion with the Great Spirit.
4. The Ghost Dance This religious dance of lost hopes was based on prayer, dance, and song. In 1890, the soldiers engaged the Ghost Dancers at a place called Wounded Knee.
5. Pilgrims at Wounded Knee The tragedy of Wounded Knee is very painful to the Indians. Many still make the pilgrimage to the sacred, windblown hilltop where so many innocent people were killed.

A thoroughly gripping melody of Irish descent constitutes the basis on which this exceedingly beautiful little piece of music rests.
Down by the Salley Gardens is a guaranteed heartbreaker on your next concert.
Since the lyrics of this Irish traditional are also supplied with the set, a combination of band with solo voice or even choir is a definite possibility. The Arranger: Leafing through a song-book containing traditionals etc., I was immediately struck by this song and its exceptionally beautiful and atmospheric melody. I simply had to do something with it.

Fabric in Brass was commissioned by National Australia Brass for the Federation of Australasian Brass Bands and its Chairman Rick Casagrande, to celebrate the Federation's 1st Anniversary and its quest to nurture the unity of the Australasian Brass Band movement.
The title of the piece is derived from the initials of the Federation of Australian Brass Bands and the name of its chairman Rick Casegrande; the word 'Fabric' also representative of a structured whole, bound together by many interwoven threads.
The piece begins with a majestic fanfare, followed by the entry of a lively theme, which is then passed around the various sections of the band. A lyrical central section features Solo Horn and Euphonium, and builds to a moving climax, before the recapitulation of the main theme leads to a rousing finale!
The first performance was given by National Australia Brass directed by Professor David King, on the 24th October 2009, in Twin Towns, Gold Coast, Australia.
