Karl Jenkins was inspired by the sixteenth century Italian architect Andrea Palladio, whose work embodies the renaissance celebration of harmony and order. Two of Palladio’s hallmarks are mathematical harmony and architectural elements borrowed from classical antiquity, a philosophy which reflects Karl Jenkins’ attitude to composition.
PALLADIO was originally written for string orchestra and it is in three movements :- 1. Allegretto 2. Largo 3. Vivace.
The Allegretto was adapted by Karl Jenkins and used in television commercials for DeBeers Diamonds in a worldwide campaign. It has since become very popular and is feature of many concerts and best-selling albums.
This arrangement by Tony Small was written for Penclawdd Brass Band’s 25th Anniversary Concert, held at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea in April, 1998. It was conducted by the Band’s President - the composer Karl Jenkins.

‘Pandemic 1349’ was written during September and October 2016 and received its premiere on Sunday 20th November at the 40th Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead where it received the best new composition/arrangement award.
‘Pandemic 1349’ is a concert work that aims to capture the atmosphere of fear and terror as the plague spreads throughout the city. The cries and screams get louder and reach a chaotic climax, before a calmer and reflective passage takes over – although the chaos and fear never totally leaves as the melodic material is played against the backdrop of what has gone before.
London lost almost half of its population during the Black Death, making this one of the single most devastating events in the city’s dark history. The outbreak not only shaped the number of inhabitants in London but also changed their mind-sets with many turning to religion – even the English language was to be forever altered.
Category: LIGHT CONCERT MUSIC Composer: Cesar Frank Arranger: Philip Sparke
Although Cesar Franck won many prizes during his student days his music was generally unrecognised by his contemporaries. His pieces were written in the romantic style whilst retaining a classical structure and his later compositions were referred to as 'cathedrals of sound'. Panis Angelicus is poetic and almost serene and this arrangement by Philip Sparke retains all of the beauty of the original.
