Made famous many years ago by the “Hovis” advert, the slow theme from Dvorak’s New World Symphony has since become a popular favorite with the classical concert audience. This arrangement brings many of the popular themes from Dvorak’s symphony together to produce a smooth calm and relaxing piece for your audience to sit back, and enjoy.

A New Concert Overture by Andrew Duncan featuring popular tunes from the USA, including The Stars and Stripes, Oh When The Saints, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Yankee Doodle and even a touch of Dvorak!
New World Overture would make a rousing and spirited start to a concert if Pizzazz and Razzamatazz are required!

Excerpts from...
For three years the Czech composer Dvorak lived and worked in America and this, his ninth and last symphony, contains impressions of that continent. This arrangement for brass band follows the scheme of the original in movement order and theme presentation although a certain amount of 'condensing' of material has naturally been inevitable.

PROGRAMME NOTE by Nigel Hess :
The three short pictures which make up the suite East Coast Pictures were inspired by several visits to a small part of the USA’s East Coast, an area which provides great extremes in the geography and the people. Shelter Island is a small island situated almost at the end of Long Island, a few hours drive east of New York. In the summer it becomes a crowded tourist trap — but in the winter it is gloriously deserted, and bravely faces the onslaught of the Atlantic, shrouded in sea mists and driving rain. This picture is a fond memory of a winter weekend on Shelter Island.
