This is an extensive work consisting of a theme, five variations and a finale. The theme is the hymn tune 'Whitechapel' whose former title 'Death is coming' did little to encourage its use! A wide range of moods are covered, from the delicate and tender to the robust and jubilant. The music was originally written for the London Citadel Band (Ontario, Canada).

This is a great ‘easy listening’ item for a concert programme. Effectively scored, it opens with a cornet section feature which returns intermittently throughout the work. Because of the distribution of the main theme across the sections of the band, this arrangement lends itself well to a bit of stage choreography if you feel the need.

"My Lagan Love" is a song to a traditional Irish air collected in 1903 in northern Donegal. The Lagan referred to in the title most likely pertains to the area of good farming land between Donegal and Derry known in Irish as An Lagán. The Lagan is the river that runs through Belfast. However, some argue that the Lagan in the song refers to a stream that empties into Lough Swilly in County Donegal. The song was used by Mary O'Hara, Charlotte Church and many more.
