Moon River Cha Cha was arranged to be part of Cory Band's winning set from Brass in Concert 2016 which was entitled; 'The Remarkable Life of Roald Dahl'. The centenary of Dahl's birth in Wales was celebrated in 2016, and this piece comes from the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's which starred Dahl's first wife, Patricia Neal. The easy-listening style of the music portrays the glamour and glitz of Roald Dahl's immediate post-war life in the USA.

Shakespeare, in his tragedy “ Othello, the Moor of Venice,” tells a tale of treachery and deceit which culminates in the murder of the chaste Desdemona by her demented husband. The Overture re-tells the story in the form of a character study of the Moor of Venice.
After a solemn opening, heavy with foreboding tragedy, Desdemona is. depicted singing the traditional ‘‘ Willow Song,’’ which Shakespeare uses so pathetically in his play. The Moor, a general in the service of the Doge of Venice, is portrayed by the stormy and martial music which follows. A fugal section describes the wiles of lago, and the protestations of Desclemona, but Othello is maddened with jealousy, and the climax of the music comes with the murder of the innocent wife ; she (lies to a strangled phrase 0f her song. The Overture closes with a solemn coda.

“I had a dream of a moose that escapes captivity and heads towards the city. At first he has a ball with all the new things to see but as he approaches the centre he gradually despairs at the chaos of the crowds of people and traffic. In the end he flees desperately out of the city and slams himself back into his cage. The piece is clearly a homage to Shostakovich and perhaps shouldn’t be taken too seriously” - Mark Hamlyn.
