Programme Notes Jeremy Nicholas (b. 1947) is an actor, broadcaster, writer and musitian. From 1977 to 1991 he was one of the regular topical songwriters for BBC Radio 4 : ‘Stop the Week’. In 1979, the producer commissioned Nicholas to write, for two programmes, instrumental numbers instead of songs. The upshot was two pieces for cornet and piano entitled the Blaithorne Suite. The soloist booked by Nicholas for the broadcasts was Ray Farr who, by happy coincidence, had just been appointed conductor of the Grimethorpe Golliey B and. suhsequently recorded the Suite in his own arrangement and encouraged Nicholas to write more pieces for the band. Lendalfoot was one of the results, completed in 1981 and arranged by Alan Gout. Lendalfoot is the seaside hamlet where the composer spent many happy family holidays as a boy .
