Through the Gates of Clos Lucé is a movement from my Continental Concerto. The concept of the Concerto was to take a whistle-stop tour, anti-clockwise, around the various musical cultures and places of interest in Europe. Starting in the UK we work through France, Spain, Central Europe and Norway before finally returning back to the UK to finish.
Clos Lucé was the French home of renowned artist, Leonardo Da Vinci. Located in the stunning town of Amboise, deep in the Loire Valley, this would be the place where many of his masterpieces were to be created.
This Soprano Cornet solo is a demanding test for any player's stamina and high register, which also gives the player the opportunity to switch between light, jazzy and passionate melodic styles.

This solo was written at the request of David Daws and The International Staff Band. David liked the solo 'Kim' by Allan Street and wanted a solo in similar style. It requires musicianship beyond mere technique and calls for keen interpretive skills. Built around 'He giveth more grace' and an arrangement of 'There is a name I love to hear', there is plenty of scope, in a variety of styles, for the soloist's artistry to show through.
