Lake of Tenderness was commissioned by Dr. Robert Childs and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band as part of their 2015 Brass in Concert programme, in which a selection of new pieces were commissioned based on the various basaltic plains of the earth’s moon, thought by early astronomers to be lakes.
Lake of Tenderness, named after the Latin ‘Lacus Lenitatis’, uses extended harmony to evoke imagery of the solitary moon in the still of space. The piece grows in texture and dynamic as if one were getting closer and closer to the Lake of Tenderness until the piece arrives at a thrilling climax. As the piece comes to an end the music dies away as if one were moving away from the moon, finishing with a final image of the full moon.

Lament was written for the Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band’s programme of music at the 40th Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.
The programme, based upon the Great Fire of London, tells the story of the fire in 1666. There were between 8-10 deaths recorded as a result of the fire, however once the damage of the fire was realised, the death toll was expected to be much higher. Lament pays tribute to those that lost their lives in the fire, where the reduced brass ensemble is a reflection of the number of lives lost. The piece allows for a moment of reflection in a programme based on such terror and panic.
An evocative first half finale or second half opener by Dan Price.
The Lamp was commissioned in 2015 by the Fishburn Band is a celebratory work commemorating the bicentenary of the "Miners Safety Lamp" invented by Sir Humphry Davy in 1815.

Elgar’s five Pomp and Circumstance Marches were written between 1901 and 1930 with number 1 undoubtedly being the most popular of the five. King Edward VII told Elgar that the tune would ‘go round the world’ if words were fitted to it. Elgar took the hint and included it (with slight rhythmic changes) in his Coronation Ode of 1902, with words by A. C. Benson. Thus was born Land of Hope and Glory which is now, of course, an integral part of the annual Last Night of the Proms, when the audience (with varying degrees of success!) sing the words along to the original march. Now your brass band can enjoy all the pomp and ceremony of proms with this arrangement by Philip Sparke.

In ‘Land of Legends’ German composer Andreas Ludwig (what’s in a name) Schulte takes you along to the fictional world of legends, myths and fairy tales.
The introduction to the first part (The Castle) describes the majestic contours of the scene of action. Its instrumentation (horns) immediately makes you imagine being in Medieval spheres.
The addition of trenchant copper instruments even gives the part a heroic tinge. After entering through the gate, a lot of hustle and bustle appears to be going on in the courtyard. Pages, squires and soldiers are busy attending to their arms. Beer is being brewed, flax is being spun, cattle are being tended and some craftsmen from neighbouring villages are busily at work.
In the upper chamber of the round tower lives an old man (The Old Wizard). He hardly ever comes out, and nobody knows exactly what he is doing. It is said that he is engaged in wizardry and magic. It is all very mysterious.
There are also festivities, some of them sober, others exuberant.
The wedding in the third part is celebrated in a grand manner. With a flourish of trumpets, the bride makes her entrance at the hand of her father. Afterwards, at the party there is dancing to the music played by minstrels and of course a plentiful banquet follows.
