Written in 1983 at the request of Keith Wilkinson to provide a piece to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the world famous GUS Band.
The work starts with a majestic fanfare with a quieter central section, which leads to a bustling Allegro with frequent changes of metre. A joyful second subject leads to a cantabile tune on euphonium which is taken up by the whole band. The Allegro returns and leads to a coda where the opening fanfare is restated, ending in a recall of the second subject. 6.28

Composed in 1992 to a commission from the Swiss brass band Fanfare Concordia of Vetroz. A short intro leads to a fast vivo with driving percussion rhythms and the main theme is introduced by the cornets. A syncopated tutti passage and a further statement of the main theme lead to a central cantabile section which is repeated with a cornet descant. Development of earlier material leads back to the main vivo theme and eventually to a full band version of the central tune. A short recapitulation of the intro brings this concert opener to a close. Jan van der Roost’s new work Jubilus will make an ideal opening piece for any event. It is in a classical ABA form, beginning with a rising brass fanfare which is quickly replaced by a contrasting expressive lyrical theme. The two themes alternate for a few seconds until an exciting new atmosphere is created with the lively allegro. This eventful piece lets you show off many aspects of your player’s style and technique without losing overall unity
