Jubilance was commissioned by the Fred Longworth High School Band to celebrate the schools 50th Anniversary. Section: 3+
The piece is both a fun work to perform and listen to and gives opportunities for a variety of soloists throughout. Led by the rhythmic percussion, in particular the drum kit the piece has drive and energy.
After a mysterious opening a variety of up-beat melodic lines and rhythmic phrases then take over. There is lots of musical interplay with the ensemble before settling at rehearsal figure E. This lighter, jazz infused section gives opportunity for a number of soloists to stand and play at the front of the ensemble.
Rehearsal figure L then introduces a new bridge section which leads to a recapitulation of the opening jubilant melodic lines that take us to a fitting close.

Although there are few records of the songs sung by slaves asthey labored, it was not until 1868, when William Francis Allen published a collection of spirituals, that a more complete documentation appeared. This book started a flood of enthusiasm for spirituals that was deepened in the 1870’s through the efforts of the “Jubilee Singers” of Fisk University in the United States. “Jubilation!” (a time of celebration) Lises the spiritual, “My Lord, What A Morning”, as the lead melody for transitions and modulations throughout and to introduce four popular spirituals: “I’m Gonna Sing”, “Steal Away”, “Ev’ry Time I Feel The Spirit” and “My Lord, What A Morning”.

Composer Debbie Wiseman is one of the UK’s most successful female music ambassadors. Throughout the past 20 years, there are probably very few people in the UK who have not heard a theme from one of Debbie’s many film or television productions. Honoured in the Queen’s New Years Honour List with an MBE for services to the music and film industry, she has been awarded honorary fellowships at both the music colleges where she studied, Trinity College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. “Jubilee Gigue” was commissioned to be performed on the Georgian barge as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Inspired by the “Gigue” in Handel’s original Water Music, the work has a rollicking, upbeat feel and is now newly arranged for brass band by Chris Houlding.

Written in 1983 at the request of Keith Wilkinson to provide a piece to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the world famous GUS Band.
The work starts with a majestic fanfare with a quieter central section, which leads to a bustling Allegro with frequent changes of metre. A joyful second subject leads to a cantabile tune on euphonium which is taken up by the whole band. The Allegro returns and leads to a coda where the opening fanfare is restated, ending in a recall of the second subject. 6.28
