Oogie Boogie
Alan Fernie has dedicated this piece to the Irvine and Dreghorn Junior Brass Band. Alan writes, The band rehearse in a room above the local football club's changing room. At the time he was writing the work, a well known footbal comentator ( Arthur Montfort ) died. One of Arthur Montford's favourite phrases when describing the action at a football match was to say "there was a Stramash". The word Stramash is used to describe a noisy commotion or an uproar. ... The origins of the word are not exactly known, although there is some suggestion that it may have derived from the old French word 'escarmoche' meaning a skirmish.
Inchkeith (from the Scottish Gaelic: Innis Cheith) is an island in the Firth of Forth, in the Kingdon of Fife, Scotland
Inchkeith has had a colourful history as a result of its proximity to Edinburgh and strategic location for use as home for Inchkeith Lighthouse and for military purposes defending the Firth of Forth from attack from shipping, and more recently protecting the upstream Forth Bridge and Rosyth Dockyard. Inchkeith has, by some accounts, been inhabited (intermittently) for almost 1,800 years.

German composer Hans Leo Hassler composed this suite at the end of the 16th century. Hassler was a student of the famous composer Gabrieli who mainly wrote for brass ensembles. This is the reason why Hassler, while only composing a relatively smaller amount of work, composed mainly for the same type of ensemble. This arrangement from Jan van Beekum is characteristic of it’s time and is for a 5 voice, flexible setting and percussion.
