The Hylton Legacy pays tribute to bandleader Jack Hylton, the three movements referencing the diverse stylistic characteristics which helped establish Hylton's reputation:
The three movements are :
01. Hylton in the Hall, a full band feature, is cast in a Latin American dance style with an occasional reference to the popular classic In the Hall of the Mountain King (Grieg).
02. Hylton’s Bear Bones, is a trombone feature which makes reference to a novelty song from the period.
03. The finale, Jack meets Joshua combines the African-American spiritual Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho with a swing section before the Latin music from the first movement brings the work to a rousing conclusion.
The Hylton Legacy was commissioned by Chris Osborn and the University of Lancaster Music Society Wind Band with the generous support of Lancaster University* to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the University. The work was first performed at the University of Lancaster Music Society Last Night of the Proms Concert on Saturday 21st June 2014 in the Great Hall. This arrangement for brass band was made for the Atlantic Brass Band (USA), conductor Salvatore Scarpa.

Suite from Hymn of the Highlands draws three expressive musical pictures of the Scottish highlands. The first movement,Ardross Castle, contains solo passages for horn and baritone and features a fascinating bagpipe melody. The second movement, Alladale, is a trio for tenor horn, flugel horn and baritone with an accompaniment featuring the percussion section. The final movement, Dundonnell, features two highly contrasting melodies, a wild presto and the bagpipe melody first heard in the first movement.

HYMN of the HIGHLANDS was commissioned by David King and the Yorkshire Building Society Band for first performance at the 2002 European Brass Band Championships Gala Concert in Brussels.
The complete suite lasts approximately 36 minutes. however it is possible to construct pieces of different lengths in order to feature particular soloists or fit different programming constraints, and to this end most of the movements are published separately.

This is an exploration of Caradog Roberts’ hymn tune Rachie, i bon un. It was written as part of my composition association and musical directorship of the Welsh brass band champions, Bedwas Trethomas and Machen (BTM) Band.
Being committed to expanding the horizons of traditional Welsh music, this new setting of a chapel favourite, embraces traditional choral elements, such as sweeping melodic lines and rich block harmony, but with a more progressive rhythmic approach.
It received its world premier on 8 March 2009 at St David’s Hall Cardiff.

"I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside" is a popular British music hall song. It was written in 1907 by John A. Glover-Kind and made famous by music hall singer Mark Sheridan who first recorded it in 1909. It speaks of the singer's love for the seaside, and his wish to return there for his summer holidays each year. It was composed at a time when the yearly visits of the British working-class to the seaside were booming.
It was, for a long time, used as a signature tune by Reginald Dixon MBE, who was the resident organist at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool between 1930-70.
