Performance Suggestions :
This arrangemeny of The Holy City is perfectly playable in normal band formation, although it has been specifically orchestrated to include choregraphy through the use of several little groups and ensembles.
Ensemble 1 sets up Stage Right and Ensemble 2 sets up Stage Left, with the soloists in the middle of each group facing out and the rest of the ensemble circling.
When required, the Soldiers line up in the centre of the band,( three each side ), and counter march to the opposite side and return. The euphonium player should stand at the front alone.
The Angels should make their way as fas as possible off stage.
All should triumphantly return to standing positions around the vkit with Fanfares at the centre, preferably raised.

Grade 5 Duration 5:23
In the most literal sense: a piece for an occasion. The actual occasion was Jan de Haan’s twentieth anniversary as a conductor of the top Dutch brass band, “Soli Deo Gloria” (Leeuwarden). To mark the occasion, the band commissioned the Belgian comopser Jan Van der Roost to create a surprise piece: without knowledge of the person being celebrated, a suitable source of inspiration was sought for. After some thought the chorale-theme from Camille Saint-Saëns organ symphony was chosen, a piece with which Jan de Haan has a special bond. Apart from this chorale, Homage is also based on the names of notes taken from ‘Jan de Haan’ and ‘Soli Deo Gloria’, resulting in the tone row: DEGAH. Both elements are combined together and form a grand climax towards the end of the piece when the whole band unites in the Saint Saëns’ theme.

Grade 5.0
Duration 5.30
Homage was commissioned by the Brass Band Concordia of Vétroz in Switzerland and is dedicated to Michel Moren, a
former member and great devotee of the band, following his tragic death. The composer illustrates the late Michel
Moren’s two great passions - brass band music and hunting.
Although this piece pays homage to a deceased person, its character is happy and optimistic just as Michel was, making it a respectful yet joyful piece.

Cornet Solo
This gorgeous melody has been made famous by the virtuoso flautist James Galway, popularised on Classic FM and now arranged for brass band with a solo cornet taking the starring role.
A perfect concert item, such a simple melody, but heart warming and playable by most bands.

Home of Legends was commissioned by, and composed for the 'Brass Band Summer School'.
The music pays homage to the many legends who have been involved with this prestigious institution throughout its history. The BBSS staff are regarded as some of the finest brass players in the world and former Musical Directors and Presidents include the great Harry Mortimer, Philip Jones, Roy Newsome and Richard Evans who directed the world premiere of this work.
The music starts with an off-stage trumpet or cornet representing the memory of great players from the past. The band then enters quietly and the piece gradually builds in the style of a majestic musical procession to the final chord designed to show the fantastic sound of a brass band in full flow.
In recent times this work has been adopted by the world famous Black Dyke Band from Queensbury - a genuine home of legends for over 150 years.
