Category: Christmas Music Composer / arranger: James Curnow
Based on "Ding Dong Merrily on High".
PROGRAM NOTE: The sound of bells at Christmas is an indigenous part of the festive season. Bells in church steeples, on street corners, in department stores and even on Christmas trees seem to represent the joy and spirit that prevails throughout the holidays. Christmas Carillon portrays the excitement of the arrival of the Christ-child, as angels sang, shepherds watched and surely, bells must have rung! The traditional carol Ding! Dong! Merrily on High is featured along with the clanging and ringing in, of the festive season. Ding! Dong! Merrily on High in heav’n the bells are ringing, Ding! Dong! Verily the sky is riv’n with angel singing. Gloria, Hosanna in excelsis!
NOTE TO THE CONDUCTOR: Jubiloso (joyously) is the directive that sets the tone for this bright and energetic opener. Since the tempo is not extremely fast, an extremely detached approach to the staccato quarter note ostinato will be crucial to the success of this piece. There are many contrasting styles including legato, staccato and marcato and many fast paced dynamic changes. Careful attention to these details will help to give the piece the characteristic flare and buoyancy required.
There are three verse and chorus presentations at measures 5, 27 and 59, with a grand finale at measure 83. The developmental interlude from measure 39-59 is based on several short phrases of the melody. Each of these motifs must be projected above the ensemble when they appear.

The Christmas season presents many wonderful occasions for celebrating the birth of Christ. From magnificent cathedrals to the ensemble on the street corner, instrumental settings of the great carols play a very important part in this celebration.
A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION is a collection of sacred carols designed to be used by just about every instrumental ensemble imaginable including quartets and quintets of mixed instruments to full orchestras, wind bands, or brass bands.
Basically four part harmony - so this set can be used by a quartet, but will work equally well with a full brass band. Additionally, there are descant melodic lines and percussion parts. If you can't always use a full brass band for whatever reason - this is a great Christmas selection to use.
It is the desire of this composer that this collection will help to edify the saint, attract the non-believer and most of all, glorify the Creator.
A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION contains the following carols:
1. Fanfare Prelude on “0 Come, All Ye Faithful. 3:00 2. Coventry Carol. 2:05 3. Good Christian Men Rejoice. 1:40 4. Christmas Lullaby (based on Greensleeves: “What Child is This?’). 3:05 5. Polish Carol. 2:10 6. O Come, Immanuel. 2:45 7. In The Bleak Mid-Winter. 2:50 Christmas Bells (Carol of the Bells and Come, All Ye Shepherds). 1:40
