The tune Old Hundredth is one of the best-known melodies in all Christian musical traditions and first appeared in 1551 when it was used as a setting for a version of Psalm134. The melody was later used in 1561 for a paraphrase of Psalm 100 — All People that on Earth do Dwell, which is still the most familiar hymn sung to this noble tune. When the New Version of the Psalms was published in 1696, the melody became known as the ‘old’ version — hence its current title. This arrangement presents three contrasting verses and is effective as a concert piece as well as an instrumental interlude as part of a church service or wedding.

Pie Jesu is the famous aria for soprano and orchestra from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, opus 48. Fauré (1845- 1924) composed the work in 1887, two years after his father’s death and only a short time before his mother passed away. Fauré’s Pie Jesu is richly atmosphere and peaceful, and Robert van Beringen perfectly captures the essence of Fauré’s beautiful music in this arrangement for brass band.

Prelude & Fanfare takes its inspiration from a piece of NASA video footage where a camera is attached to a piece of debris and jettisoned into space from the space shuttle. Initially, the camera captures images of the shuttle flying off into the distance and out of sight and images of Earth from outer space as the debris floats around. The Earth's magnetic field takes hold of the debris and it re enters the Earth's atmosphere, gathering speed and plummeting towards Earth.
The work is a musical reflection of this journey, starting with the weightless lontano section. A musical representation of the entry into Earth's atmosphere, and the brisk tempo and rhythm of the main theme, convey images of accelerated speed and excitement which eventually climaxes in the inevitable final thud of both the musical and documented journey.

This set includes additional parts for horn in Eb, trombones in treble clef and Eb bass.
Procession of the Nobles was first performed by the Royal Academy of Music brass ensemble in the Forbidden Concert Hall in Beijing, China. This arrangements is a great opener to a brass concert and can be played either at a fun concert or as a fanfare for a major event.
