‘When at night I go to sleep Fourteen angels watch do keep’
The evening prayer of Hansel and Gretel whilst lost in the forest, and the universally known lullaby. This is a beautiful arrangmeent of the song from Humperdinck’s opera. It is not difficult and is perfect as a change of pace in a concert.

Grade 2.0 Duration 4.48
A composition with the liberation from the Second World War as its theme. After a solemn introduction one hears the melody of the hymn Abide with you, which was sung a lot during the war. Following there are variations on the theme, finally leading to the magisterial conclusion that represents the ultimate liberation. The work may be interpreted as popular music (with the part for drumset), but a more serious version without drums is possible and, indeed, preferable.

Eventus – Lake of Dreams was composed for Dr. Robert Childs and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band especially for the 2015 Brass In Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.
The music acts as a curtain raiser, introducing the band in sections, initially featuring the percussion and low brass. A virtuoso duet then ensues, quickly followed by a flugel and horn duet leading into each section of the band being individually showcased, before the conductor finally enters the stage.
Inspired by the Lactus Somnorium (Lake of Dreams), the music is optimistic in style and follows Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s trademark formula, creating a spine-tingling ‘opener’ with a difference!
The work received its world premiere performance during Grimethorpe’s August 2015 tour of Australia and is featured on the CD ‘Grimethorpe Entertain’.
