A stunning hymn-like medley that takes you on a trip around the British Isles. Starting in Scotland with “Highland Cathedral” which continues to make appearances throughout, and then into “Amazing Grace” whilst “Danny Boy” (Londonderry Air)” flows underneath. Whilst “Danny Boy” continues to build, “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ is heard ringing over the top as the piece builds to its emotional climax Afterwards, a quiet calm of all the pieces skilfully woven together softly flow whilst the tune to Parry’s “Dear Lord & Father Of Mankind (Repton)” leaves us with a delicate, soft finish to the journey. Suitable for any standard of Brass Band.

PROGRAM NOTE: All Aboard! is the sound of train that can hardly stay on the track because all the coaches can’t stop dancing! This arrangement puts the old spiritual This Train is Bound for Glory into a gospel boogie featuring the Trombone section. Along the route short stops are made near many famous train references. See how many you can hear. NOTE TO THE CONDUCTOR: Rhythm is the name of the game here. Tenor Horns, Baritones, Euphoniums and Percussion work together to simulate a sort of honky-tonk piano part. Really bring out the accents on 2 and 4. The trick is to keep the style fresh all the way to the end, and use dynamics to keep it from becoming repetitive. The Trombones just need to let it rip and stay above the ensemble. Let the fall-offs last forever. At the written tempo, the arrangement has a nice easy swing feel. (If your band can handle it, it works well as a very bright shuffle around 186 beats per minute, more of a cut-time feel.)

At the beginning of the 1980s Alison Moyet was discovered by Vince Clarke, who - in search of greater independence - had left the successful band Depeche Mode. The soulful singing style of Moyet and the electronic, innovative pop that Clarke made melded well together in the group Yazoo with hits such as Only You and Don’t Go. However, after a number of years Moyet went her own way and forged a solo career, during which she demonstrated a somewhat more traditional sound. She recorded several covers (such as The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and That Ole Devil Called Love) but she also wrote fine songs herself, such as Love Resurrection and, of course, the expressive song All Cried Out. This arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars does justice to the atmosphere of the original song.

Suggestions for use in Entertainment Contests and Concerts This music was specially arranged for the Brighouse and Rastrick Band by Leigh Baker, their Composer in Residence, for use at the 2007 “Brass in Concert” Championships at the Sage, Gateshead.
In this arrangement the scoring incorporates Bflat Trumpets and E flat Mellophoniums. This is for visual presentation in addition to the musical sounds required to show this music at its best. Alternatively the standard brass band line up may be used, with Comets, Horns and Euphoniums replacing Trumpets, Mellophoniums and Baritones.

One movement from a five movement suite, featuring different soloists. Features Flugel Horn, Eb Horn & Baritone trio.
The recording is "HYMN of the HIGHLANDS" on Polyphonic QRL 214D
The River Alladale provides the inspiration for this lyrical piece which has a lilting melody with an unmistakeable Scottish feel. The trio of Flugel Horn, Tenor Horn and Baritone provide a wonderful sense of flowing with the river which, as the piece progresses, broadens and grows stronger as it nears the outlet to the sea by the Summer Isles. Bring a touch of Scots magic to your concert with this delightful piece.
