Big and Brassy was set up by Linda and Ray Somers in 2017 to bring eight small, non competing bands together for a weekend of music making and to raise money for charity. Its huge success led to the continuation of the project. In 2018 Brass for Africa was chosen as the resident music charity, and the bands were able to donate not only money, but much needed mouthpieces to support the charity's mission to trasform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Africa through Music Education and Life Skills Training.
Alan Fernie, Brass for Africa's Composer in Residence, joined the band as guest soloist on trombone. In celebration of the Big and Brassy concept, Alan has now written this Big & Brassy march.
By purchasing this title, you will be making a direct contribution to the life changing charity Brass for Africa - as well as performing great music.

This work was written for the Wardle High School Junior Brass Band as part of their programme at the National Festival of Music for Youth and first performed by them in Birmingham's Symphony Hall on 10th July 2006. Duration: c. 2' 00" The piece is ideal for youth bands to perform. In the style of a circus piece, it is just over two minutes in length and fun to play. The Big Top is simple, short and easy to play and should provide enjoyment for both the player and listener.
A lovely bright lyrical march with a memorable melody and a welcome alternative to the standard march. Bincombe Beeches has a nice interlude section, a change of time signature from 4/4 to 6/8 before returning to 4/4 for its play out.
Try something different – for a melody to delight the audience, get their toes tapping, and stays in their heads long after the performance.
