Escapology was commissioned, in 2008, by the acclaimed baritone horn soloist Carole Crompton. The brief for the work was simple — to produce an accessible and tuneflul piece that displays the lyrical and technical capabilities of the baritone horn.
As the progressive rock band 'Transatlantic' quote in their song of the same name "We All Need Some Light".
Since the dawn of man, fire has been our most essential companion. A steadfast provider, it is a source of comfort, assurance and safety. On the other hand though, fire is one of natures most brutal and unpredictable forces; erratic, entrancing, devastating and spectacular.
Our personal 'fire' finds us in a multitude of ways. At one stage or another, we will all search for The Healing Power of Flame.
Proverbially is a concertino for euphonium and brass band. The piece is structured in three individual movements, each around 3 minutes. Each movement is based on a particular modern proverb:
Category: SOLOS - B♭. Cornet/Trumpet with Piano Composer: Terry Camsey
This solo was written at the request of David Daws and The International Staff Band. David liked the solo 'Kim' by Allan Street and wanted a solo in similar style. It requires musicianship beyond mere technique and calls for keen interpretive skills. Built around 'He giveth more grace' and an arrangement of 'There is a name I love to hear', there is plenty of scope, in a variety of styles, for the soloist's artistry to show through.
This solo was written for Derick Kane and consists of two sections. The first is built on an original, lyrical melody which is introduced immediately by the soloist while the second is more virtuosic in style and features a tune by the late Keith Prynn, 'I feel like singing all the time'. The solo is jaunty and light-hearted, with a fine sense of style, and not without a dash of humour.

This composition is a very challenging one for the soloist and requires the accompaniment to be subservient at all times. The soloist will find it helpful to, generally, adopt a very light and playful style. As a young aspiring cornet player, the composer was influenced by a number of soloists of that day, one being Del Staigers of the Goldman Band in the USA. Many of the musical motifs reflect that influence and it is hoped that this solo will, in turn, inspire the many aspiring cornet players of today.
