A much requested follow up to Zoo Ball. This book leads the young player into tackling new time signatures. As with Zoo Ball, there are memorable tunes which encourage the player into new spheres.
TIME TRAVEL is a suite of ten easy pieces for young brass or wind band. Scored in five basic parts (plus percussion) it can be played by full band or smaller groups with incomplete instrumentation.
As well as being fun to play, TIME TRAVEL can be used to introduce players to time signatures which they may not normally meet in the early stages, as each movement is in a different metre.
1.TWO TIMER - A march in 2/4 time
2. SIX AND TWO THREES - A movement in 6/8 where everybody gets a chance to play the tune.
3. FOUR-TUNE - As the title suggests, a tune in 4/4
4. RAGTIME - A 2/4 rag.
5. DOZEN MATTER - a 50’s style 12/8 pop tune.
6. FIVE-A-SIDE - An introduction to 5/4
7. SIX FORM - A chorale in 6/4
8. 999 SQUADRON - Epic film theme in 9/8
9. SEVEN-UP – Heavy rock in 7/4
10. IT’S WALTZ TIME - A charming ¾ finale
TIME TRAVEL is playable by any mixed brass or wind group of around ten players up to full band, so long as each of the five parts is covered.
Parts 1 to 4 all divide in places so ideally need more than one player allocated to them.
To avoid a constant ‘tutti’ with larger groups, it is a good idea to vary the instrumentation occasionally (e.g. resting the brass now and again) and movements 3, 6, 7 and 10 have indications in the score and parts how this can be done. Obviously, these indications can be ignored in smaller groups where the number of players per part does not permit such variation.
The five parts are available in the following transpositions:
Part 1.
in C upper octave – Flute
in C - Oboe
in Bb. - 1st. Clarinet, or 1st.Cornet/Trumpet
in Eb. - Soprano Cornet, or E flat Clarinet
Part 2
in Bb. - 2nd Clarinet, 2nd Cornet/Trumpet, Flugel Horn
Parts 1 and 2 are the soprano parts. Part 1 should ‘outweigh’ part 2 in sound, if not in numbers, as it is often divided. Cornets, Trumpets and Clarinets should be divided accordingly between the parts.
Part 3
in Bb. - 3rd Clarinet
in Eb. - Alto Saxophone, Tenor Horn
in F - French Horn
Part 3 is the alto part. It is occasionally scored as an individual part but frequently doubles parts 2 or 4.
Part 4
in C (B.C.) - 1st. Bassoon or 1st. Trombone
in Bb.(T.C.) - Baritone, Euphonium or Tenor Saxophone
Part 4 is the tenor part.
Part 5
in C (B.C.) - 2nd. Trombone, 2nd. Bassoon or Tuba
in Eb.(T.C.) - Eb.Bass or Baritone Saxophone
in Bb.(T.C.) - Euphonium, Bass Clarinet, B flat Bass
Part 5 is the bass part and frequently doubles part 4 either in unison or at the octave.
SUPPLEMENTARY PARTS :
In addition to the above, parts 4 and 5 are available in the following transpositions which are in line with common practice in some European countries.
Part 4
in B flat (B.C.) Euphonium
Part 5
in E flat (B.C.) - Eb.Bass
in B flat (B.C.) - Bb.Bass
