Dreamsong was commissioned by Geir Ulseth and the Nidaros Brass Band from Trondheim, Norway. After a short introduction, the soloist introduces a rather nostalgic melody, accompanied by the lower brass parts. A fast central section is then played by the band, which leads to a climax. Eventually, the main melody played by the solo cornet and flugel horn returns, overlaid with an ornamented counter-melody from the soloist, who then closes the piece with a short cadenza.

Moon River is the title song of the famous 1961 motion picture Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Over the years the song was covered by many major stars, turning it into an absolute evergreen around the world. The beauty of the melody is also suited for mellow sounding instruments like the Eb alto horn; a great reason for the British composer and arranger Christopher Bond to make a version for brass band and alto horn.
Category: SOLOS for Bass Trombone Composer: Bill Geldard
Foreward by Bill Geldard :
Back in the days when I began playing the Bass Trombone, there was only one, or two at the most Method Books for Bass Trombone, and they were American inports.
I started writing these exercises to help me, in partucular, making the valve tones match the sound of the open notes. Some of these exercises owe their life to things I encountered in the recording and film studios.
The Bass Trombone ( courtesy of George Roberts ) became the "flavour of the month" with arrangers and composers. One MD arranger that I did sessions for liked the sound of the bass trombone so much that his trombone section was four basses rather than the usual three tenors and a bass - Happy Days !
I have enlarged the section on scales to include exercises on whole-tone, dimished etc. These are not often found in conventional study books, but are very useful these days.
I hope you enjoy this book and get the benefit from the exercises - I know I did.

Por una cabeza, literally translated as "by a head [of a horse]" in Spanish (meaning a horse winning a race by one head's distance), is one of the most famous and popular Argentine tangos.
Composer Carlos Gardel (11 December 1890 – 24 June 1935) was a singer, songwriter and actor, and is perhaps the most prominent figure in the history of tango. The music has appeared in numerous TV and Film soundtracks, perhaps most memorably in the famous dancing scene featuring Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.
This extended arrangement for cornet (or trumpet) incorporates a cadenza and newly written interludes.
Extracts performed by the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, conductor David King. Full recording available on War of the Worlds - The Music of Peter Graham – available on this site.

"With His First Breath" is the lovely slow melody taken from the middle movement of my larger work Breath of Souls. It has been composed for performance by any B-flat soloist within the ensemble - Cornet, Euphonium, Baritone, Flugel or Trombone.
Starting with a short introduction the soloist enters, performing the main theme with simple accompaniment from the ensemble. After a short interlude the main theme is performed again, this time in the new change of key and a lot quieter showing off the soloist’s dynamic control.
The contrasting middle section gives the opportunity for a counter melody by the soloist before a build to the return of the main theme. This time the soloist combines with the ensemble playing part of the main melody and then souring over the ensemble with the countermelody before bringing the piece to a peaceful close.
"With His First Breath" is dedicated to my son, Luca.
