In his own distinctive style, Robert van Beringen has composed a very unique fantasy on three themes by the famous Baroque composers Johann Sebastian Bach and George Friedich Handel Van Beringen used Bach’s chorale Brich an, o schones Morgenlicht (‘Break forth, 0 Beauteous Heavenly Light’) from his Christmas oratorio and the recitative Behold, a Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with Us from Handel’s Messiah. A perfect way to say Merry Christmas in music!

This arrangement is an energetic march that provides a spirited setting for the familiar "bell" melodies of the season. The main tunes featured are Carol of the Bells, I Heard the Bells and Jingle Bells, but you will also hear several other tunes woven into the music.

The Boar’s Head carol is a fifteenth century carol. It describes the ancient tradition of sacrificing a boar and displaying its head on a platter at a seasonal feast. This tradition goes back at least to Anglo-Saxon times. The head, complete with apple in its mouth was carried to the banquet table on a silver or gold platter to the sounds of trumpets and singing minstrels. My arrangement of this carol seeks to bring something to the party in the style of the acclaimed folk band “Bellowhead”.
